Links to sites on Massachusetts' South Shore

The suburbs to the south of Boston are known collectively as "The South Shore"; no, all of our towns are not on the shore, nor are all towns south of Boston included in this area. The major urban areas on the South Shore are Quincy and Brockton, which both have populations of nearly 100,000 people. The South Shore is currently the fastest growing region in the Greater Boston Metropolitan area.

Residents of the South Shore are served by the MBTA through its Red Line Rapid Transit line, which has four stops in Quincy and one in Braintree, as well as numerous bus lines. There are also commuter rail lines which go to Canton and Stoughton. A newly restored commuter rail in the eastern part of the South Shore opened this Fall, including three stops in Brockton. The Plymouth and Brockton bus line links residents of more southerly sections with Boston. Brockton Area Transit provides bus transportation between Brockton, Stoughton, Avon, Boston and Bridgewater. Major highways include routes 24 and 3 and Interstates 93, 95 and 495.

While it is possible to get to Boston, there are plenty of attractions on the South Shore itself to keep folks busy in their leisure time. There are also several colleges and trade schools to keep folks informed.
